Dane R. Ullian is a member of the firm’s Litigation Team and focuses his practice on jury and non-jury trials of business governance, trust, and contract disputes, as well as personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases.  Mr. Ullian grew up in Vero Beach and in 2016 returned with his family to join Gould Cooksey Fennell.  Before entering private practice, Mr. Ullian served as an intelligence officer and captain in the United States Air Force.

Mr. Ullian graduated from law school ranked number one in his class at the University of Florida Levin College of Law.  During law school, he interned for the Honorable Steven D. Merryday of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and also served as senior managing editor of the Florida Law Review.  Mr. Ullian twice competed in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria.  Both times, he earned an Honorable Mention for Best Oralist.  In his second competition, Mr. Ullian was the captain of the UF Law team, which placed fifth out of nearly 300 law schools from around the world. 

Super Lawyers names Mr. Ullian as one of Florida’s “Rising Stars,” effectively ranking him as one of the top 2.5% of attorneys in the state who are under the age of 40, as chosen by their peers and through the independent research. He was also given the distinction of Best Lawyers: “One’s to Watch”, defining him as setting the highest standard of legal expertise, ethics, and professionalism.

After law school, Mr. Ullian practiced commercial litigation with a national law firm in Tampa, where he represented corporate clients in contract, tort, statutory, and governance disputes.  Immediately prior to joining the firm, Mr. Ullian served as a law clerk to the Honorable Susan H. Black of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Notable Settlements and Verdicts

Plaintiff was operating a small motorcycle/scooter when a 91 year old man turned left in front of him hitting him essentially head on. As a result of the collision, the Plaintiff sustained catastrophic injuries to his lower body, including snapped femurs and fractures to the spine and pelvis. After a two week trial the Indian River County jury returned an award totaling $9.381 million.

Medical negligence claim arising out of a breach in the standard of care by a physician and hospital in which an incorrect, corrosive chemical was used during a gynecological procedure, resulting in acid burns and severe permanent injuries to the Plaintiff.

A Brevard County Jury awarded Plaintiff $6.4M against Defendant State Farm, following an accident that resulted in numerous catastrophic orthopedic injuries, including a below knee amputation of the Plaintiff’s left leg.
